September may seem a long way off and the summer holidays stretching endlessly before us, but they will disappear faster than you think. For some children September will bring their first experience of school for others the challenges of a new year group. But is your child ready? Here at curious kids 101 we aim to help you support your child in being school ready by September.
First it must be said that it is not expected that children arrive at school for the first time with any specific academic skills. Though a certain amount of independence is expected so they can deal with a school environment. However if you do wish to get ahead of the game or are simply looking for resources to help support your child’s learning this year our shop is full of new packs to support learning and independence.

Counting to 10 Learning Pack
Counting to 10 is a key skill taught in early years. With this pack children can learn to recognise numbers in their written form and practice writing them for themselves. They can also develop their 1-to-1 recognition while counting the items on the group cards and match them to the corresponding number. Over time this will lead to the skill of subitising or recognising the number of items in a group without counting each one.
Personalised Name Writing Pack
This pack is designed to help teach your child how to write their own name. In this pack the task of writing their name is broken down into manageable steps for the child to master one at a time. Even a very young child can begin to recognise their name with this pack. Each letter is on an individual card which can be matched to the Name Writing sheet. Each letter can be traced over to support correct letter formation before finally writing the full name independently.
Phonics Alphabet MatchingPromote the use of phonics for reading and spelling with this Phonic Alphabet Matching Pack. Introduce the main phonic sound for each individual letter of the alphabet and practice writing them by tracing over each card. Support your child in identifying sounds in words by matching each phonic sound to its corresponding animal picture.
CVC Phonics Practice (17 words) Learning Pack
Promote early reading with this CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words pack. Help your child use phonics and match the letters and picture to the word card. This resource is great for any child who is ready to start learning to read and spell.This is a great pack one the main phonic sounds of individual letters have been learnt.
Understanding Numbers 1-100 Learning Pack
The clear resources of this pack will support your child to count to 100 using a hundred square and to explore in depth what these numbers really mean. Make the numbers from the hundred square with tens and units pieces and arrow cards to help understand the concept of partitioning. Place the cross shape number finder on the hundred square and examine which numbers are +1, -1, +10 or -10 from that number. Don’t worry if this all seems a little daunting the pack included a guidance sheet to help you best support your child while using this pack. A great chance for your child to practice maths skills in a practical way at home.
Independent Kids RangeI mentioned previously this is probably the most important skill you can give your child before they start school is the ability to be independent in their self care. Our independent kids range includes Personalised Routine Charts for bathroom time and getting dressed, potty training charts and our new Heading Out Chart will help you remember everything they need for the day.
Older children can benefit from these charts too. Use them to help keep them on track while getting ready in the morning.
